A recovery week. Yippee. Some good sessions though. I did the 16 x 400 Threshold for the first time last week. It was hot and so I did have to drop my pace by rep 10 as my HR hit LT2. But I loved it, the short recoveries are brutal but it means the HR was only dropping from 165 – 160, so from a training point of view it’s perfect. I managed to cover 6.4km at just a fraction slower than my current 5k pace whilst my HR never left Zone 5. So high volume, high pace, medium intensity. It’s clever. If you wanted to switch the tempo run to Saturday and do that as part of parkrun that could be a good idea. Any issues shout. Keep smashing it James.

*reps/seconds on both sides
A really good home workout for the core and legs. If new to this, don’t worry about hitting the seconds or reps. Do what you can and slowly build up to the targets.
For example you might find you can only hold a plank for 20 seconds at first, which is fine. Don’t push too hard that you get injured. You’ll soon get strong and be able to add more seconds.

*Recoveries: 30 Seconds after the 30 second reps, 60 seconds after the 60 second reps. Simples.
Coach Simon🍊 “Make a note of RPM & the resistance level so you can increase them as you do more sessions.” Recoveries in between intervals are the same as the effort. So 30 and 60 seconds easy pace.
A threshold session in disguise. So whilst your pace will be Zone 6: 5k, because the reps are so short, you should find your heart rate stays in Zone 5, and below your LT2 (if you have that data). You can choose to run this session specifically to HR if you prefer. If you start to struggle, increase recovery slightly.

A good opportunity to practice your half marathon goal pace during a midweek tempo run. Factor in hills and weather, which may effect pace, in which case nail the right RPE.
Try and keep it easy. It all depends on your current level. If slowly adding time to your long run the last 10-20 mins might be tough. Focus on good form.
